The purpose of a team is not goal attainment, but goal alignment.

In general, it is the people on teams, not the teams themselves, that attain goals. Much of the work is done individually.

Yet when a team is aligned, the team members are more effective. Hence the purpose of a team is alignment on a goal, not its attainment.
