Reference #278: The First 90 Days
There are several classic influence techniques to consider applying:
- Consultation: engaging in active listening.
- Framing: crafting persuasive arguments per person. Consider logos, ethos, and pathos.
- Choice-shaping: influencing how people see their options.
- Social influence: leveraging the impact of societal rules and the opinions of others.
- Incrementalism: taking many small steps that are individually easy to accept but which together move people in a direction they would not go in a single leap.
- Sequencing: being deliberate in the order you influence people to build momentum.
- Action-forcing events: eliminating inaction as an option, for example by setting up meetings and deadlines where people make commitments.
