Resilience is a measure of a system's ability to survive in a changing environment. The opposite of resilience is brittleness or rigidity.

Resilience arises through the structure of many feedbacks loops in a system that restore the system even after a large perturbation. Ecosystems, for example, are highly resilient largely due to the multiple species holding each other in check and adapting to changing conditions.
