Reference #422: Organizational Culture and Leadership

All group learning comes originally from an individual's beliefs and values on what should be (and the gap between that and reality).

When a group faces a new challenge, an individual may propose a solution. This solution reflects her beliefs and assumptions on what will work. For example, a manager may suggest increasing advertising spend to counter decreasing sales, based on her past success with this approach elsewhere. If she convinces the group to act on this belief, and the solution works, that individual belief gradually becomes a shared belief or value. If related actions continue to be successful, it eventually becomes a shared assumption.
