There are two types of meetings: working meetings and ceremonies.

A working meeting has a clear outcome, and is defined by the specific action the group in attendance needs to take for the meeting to conclude.

A ceremony, in contrast, is a meeting not ended by any action, but rather by the clock. These are often status updates; regularly scheduled ceremonies like these should be avoided due to the time they waste of those not providing an update.

There is, however, a real need for some ceremonies — such as to celebrate an accomplishment, or to layout a strategic change in direction.
