Reference #378: Thinking in Systems
Competition in a market systematically eliminates market competition. This analysis, made by Karl Marx, can be seen to be true in any competitive market or where one previously existed. For example, in the U.S. the number of car manufacturers has reduced from many to only three (though not one, due to antitrust laws). This pattern is also seen in the long-term trend towards a declining number of farms with a corresponding increase in farm size.
