Chaos is an inevitable step in the process of organisational change. Virginia Satir provides the following model of change:

After a catalyst for change (an outside force or recognition that the world has changed) begins the change process, the organisation moves to the chaos step. Here, the situation feels worse than the old status quo.

This is followed by the Practice-and-Integration phase, where the trend of learning is upward and noticeable.

The last phase in this model is the New Status Quo.
